Parish Nursing is a way for nurses to reach the local community and provide holistic health care. Parish Nurses do not perform clinical tasks but fulfil other aspects of the wider nursing role, such as being health educators. They are funded by, or are a volunteer from, the local church. They are able to offer support and pray with individuals with health needs or concerns.

They are able to identify the health needs of those they serve, either providing support or making sure appropriate care is sought. Healthcare is wider than prescribing medicines, or intensive care, it is about people. Parish nursing seeks to help people to 'live life in all of its fullness,' the ministry of Jesus from John's gospel (John 10:10 paraphrased).
