Hold a festival in your local church, or community centre to celebrate God’s provision of food. Include a large poster that thanks God for his provision, using the words of a well know hymn like ‘we plough the seeds and scatter’.

You could:

  • Invite local organisations and individuals to create displays of food,

  • Invite local shops to host food stalls, and make a small donation to a food poverty charity such as The Trussell Trust.

  • Invite local restaurants to prepare and sell their food in an attractive version of a foodhall.

  • Encourage local gardeners and schools to grow their finest produce, and host a competition with different categories to find the best locally grown marrow. Invite the local mayor to judge the contest.

  • Include a prayer box for people to add their prayer requests, and a prayer map of countries who do not have as much food provision.

  • Create games such as the tallest sweetcorn tower, or best vehicle made out of vegetables and cocktail sticks.

  • Include a short homily of thanks to God for his provision at a set time, and a time of prayer for those in food poverty.

The main focus of this event is to create an enjoyable community event, that centres around God’s provision of food. The activities encourage community cohesion, and include deliberate but simple prayer activities to enable people who wish to experience a snap shot of worship.

God is thanked for his provision.  Food is enjoyed.  The community is celebrated.
