Description

Are you a Christian with a passion for sport in general and rugby in particular? Then get your hands on Engage2015's 'Game of Life' resource pack and use all that passion to make Jesus more visible during this autumn's Rugby World Cup.

So often as Christians we can compartmentalise our faith, struggling to make the connection between our passion for Christ and our love of sport which our creator God wove skilfully into our DNA.

Well, it is time to stop parking our personality at the door when it comes to matters of faith, and the 'Game of Life' resource pack will help us do just that, making sure we are kitted out and ready to connect with our communities ahead of the big kick-off when England face Fiji at Twickenham on Friday, September 18.

The 'Game of Life' Resource is a leaders one-stop shop for making the most of the opportunity presented by having the World Cup in our backyard.

Your 'Game of Life' resource pack has ideas for every situation. You'll find:

  • links to video testimonies by Christian players like England powerhouse Billy Vunipola and South African legend Ruan Pienaar, men who are learning how to action the challenge to 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. These videos are ideal for a half-time slot should your church decide to screen a game live, or as a discussion point following a 'World Cup' Breakfast.

  • Maybe you prefer the face-to-face approach, in which case your 'Game of Life' pack can show you how to organise an event with a rugby-related speaker. Alternatively, you might want to get really hands on and organise a rugby festival either as a church, or in partnership with your local rugby club.

  • There are even resources for taking the Rugby World Cup into your local schools with specific programmes designed for key stages 2 & 3. So whatever is on your heart 'Game of Life' can help.

  • We haven't forgotten you on a personal level either. Engage has partnered with Biblica in producing a 'Game of Life' Luke & Acts, for evangelism specifically created with World Cup 2015 in mind for evangelism. Inside you will find more testimonies from leading Christian players like Pienaar, Samoan international Dan Leo, London Welsh's Pete Browne and Paul Marshall of London Irish. In addition you will receive a six-week study plan looking at 'coach' Jesus and what happened when he let loose his players to run with the ball themselves.

Rationale

Packed full of ideas on how to engage with our fellow rugby lovers and the wider community, 'Game of Life' is endorsed by Christian organisations ranging from CVM (Christian Vision for Men), Christians in Sport, Scripture Union and HOPE and Biblica, as well as leaders from across the denominational spectrum.

The Rugby World Cup is the third biggest sporting event on the planet after the Football World Cup and the Olympics, so there won't be a better opportunity to engage with the sporting conversation this year.

Outcome

Salvation Army Commissioner Clive T Adams said: "I am excited about the Engage 2015 campaign, because, yet again, two of my passions become intertwined - my love for the Lord and my love for sport. Sport is a wonderful means of establishing relationships, and can be a means to transforming lives and communities. Engaging in the Rugby World Cup is a wonderful example of the local church modelling integrated mission, creating opportunities to make disciples, and thereby effectively fulfilling the Great Commission."
